Earlier today on Bellshill Salvation Army Band’s Facebook page I shared the devotions I shared at our band practice last Wednesday evening. I’d like to share those devotions with you tonight.
In my own devotional time in the last few weeks, I’ve been focusing on God’s faithfulness. So tonight I want to share a summary of some of those devotions.
I was challenged when I started focusing on this subject when I found myself faced with the following question:
𝑊ℎ𝑒𝑛 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑙𝑎𝑠𝑡 𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑝𝑎𝑢𝑠𝑒𝑑 𝑡𝑜 𝑟𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑤ℎ𝑜 𝐺𝑜𝑑 𝑖𝑠?
Not who we hope He might be, not who we fear He could be, but who He has always proven Himself to be:
- Faithful.
- Steady.
- Unchanging
𝑳𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 3:22–23
“𝐵𝑒𝑐𝑎𝑢𝑠𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐿𝑜𝑟𝑑’𝑠 𝑔𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑡 𝑙𝑜𝑣𝑒 𝑤𝑒 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑢𝑚𝑒𝑑, 𝑓𝑜𝑟 ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑝𝑎𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠 𝑛𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝑓𝑎𝑖𝑙. 𝑇ℎ𝑒𝑦 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑛𝑒𝑤 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑦 𝑚𝑜𝑟𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔; 𝑔𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑡 𝑖𝑠 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑓𝑎𝑖𝑡ℎ𝑓𝑢𝑙𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠.”
Lamentations is a book written in the middle of heartbreak and uncertainty, yet right in the centre of the struggle comes one of the most hope filled declarations in Scripture:
“𝐺𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑡 𝑖𝑠 𝑌𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑓𝑎𝑖𝑡ℎ𝑓𝑢𝑙𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠.”
Not was.
Not might be.
But is.
God’s faithfulness isn’t seasonal.
It doesn’t rise and fall with our circumstances.
It doesn’t depend on how strong we feel or how well life is going.
It’s the same in
- times of joy
- times of waiting
- times of struggle
- times of blessing
- times we feel overwhelmed
Whenever we’ve found ourselves in any of these circumstances, God has still been faithful — sometimes quietly, sometimes obviously, but always consistently.
God’s love towards us is fixed, it is immovable, and it will not change. This means that
- our mistakes today don’t disqualify from his love tomorrow
- today’s worries don’t define what tomorrow brings
- today’s strength doesn’t define the limit of the strength He can give us tomorrow
God meets us again and again with fresh mercy, fresh grace, and fresh strength.
We worship a God who has never failed – that means that
- His faithfulness is the reason we can keep going.
- His faithfulness is the reason we can trust.
- His faithfulness is the reason we can rest, even when life feels uncertain or difficult
Great is His faithfulness — in every season, in every moment, in every step of the journey.
𝑷𝒓𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓
Lord, we thank You tonight for Your great faithfulness.
You have been steady when life has been uncertain, constant when our circumstances have shifted, and gracious in ways we didn’t even recognise at the time.
As we pause in the middle of this week, and ask that You quiet our hearts and remind us again of who You are.
Where we feel tired, bring strength.
Where we feel stretched, bring peace.
Where we feel unsure, bring clarity.
And where we feel overwhelmed, remind us that Your mercies are new every morning.
Let Your faithfulness shape our thoughts, steady our steps, and fill us with hope.
We thank you for Your goodness, Your presence, and Your unchanging love.
Amen.
