Earlier today on Bellshill Salvation Army Band’s Facebook page I shared some devotions. I’d like to share those devotions with you tonight.
After a break for summer, it’s time for our band practices to start again tonight. It’s also time for our #WednesdayDevotions to restart! We hope you find blessing and challenge as you read the devotions we will share each Wednesday.
We hope you have had a fantastic summer, and were able to spend some time relaxing with your family and friends.
As we return to the band room, there’s always a mixture of familiarity and freshness. The same seats, the same instruments, the same friends — yet something feels new. A summer break gives us time to reset and recharge. It gives us space to breathe, to reflect, and to remember what matters most.
In Scripture, moments of “returning” often mark new beginnings. After seasons of rest, God frequently calls His people to step forward with renewed purpose.
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Galatians 6:9
As we begin a new session together, perhaps this is our moment to recommit — not just to rehearsals, meetings, and ministry, but to living out Christ’s love with consistency and joy. Playing in the band is never only about music. It’s about witness. It’s about service. It’s about being part of something that points beyond ourselves.
So tonight, as our practices restart, may we be reminded of our calling: to be people of hope, encouragement, and faith in every place God sends us.
To help us set our hearts in the right place, we finish with a beautiful piece of music by Kenneth Downie, that reminds us of our purpose and our prayer for the months ahead: “In Perfect Peace.”
May its message guide us into this new season with calm confidence in the One who leads us.
