Earlier today on Bellshill Salvation Army Band’s Facebook page I shared some devotions. I’d like to share those devotions with you tonight.
There are songs that stir the heart, and there are songs that gently bring us back to the centre of our faith. For me, one of those songs is ‘God and God Alone‘.
In a world that constantly competes for our attention, affection, and allegiance, this beautiful song declares a simple but profound truth: God alone is worthy of our worship, praise, and devotion.
The words echo the message found throughout Scripture:
God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow…
Philippians 2:9
As band members, it can be easy to focus on notes, technique, rehearsals, and performances. Yet our music has a much greater purpose. Every rehearsal, every act of service, and every note played is an opportunity to lift hearts, and point people towards Christ.
The song reminds us that one day all earthly achievements and honours will fade, but God’s glory remains forever. He is the source of our strength, the reason for our service, and the focus of our worship.
Today, let us pause and reflect:
- Is God truly at the centre of all I do?
- Does my life bring glory to Him?
- Am I using the gifts He has given me to point others towards His love?
May our prayer be that through our music, our fellowship, and our daily lives, others will see not us, but the Lord whom we serve.
