Making the most of your weekend

Don’t count the days. Make the days count.

Muhammad Ali

As another weekend draws to a close, it’s worth pausing for a moment to reflect on how we have spent the precious gift of our time over this weekend.

Weekends can easily disappear in a blur of chores, errands, social media, and endless to-do lists. Before we know it, Sunday evening arrives and we wonder where the time has gone. Yet a well-spent weekend is not necessarily one packed with activity. It is one filled with purpose, rest, connection, and gratitude.

God designed us with the need for both work and rest. A weekend provides an opportunity to recharge physically, renew our minds, spend time with loved ones, and deepen our relationship with Him. Even simple moments can become meaningful when approached with intention: a walk in the fresh air, a conversation with a friend, time spent in prayer, or an hour devoted to helping someone in need.

The truth is that making the most of a weekend is not about accomplishing everything. It is about investing our time in what matters most. The memories we create, the kindness we show, and the moments we spend with God often leave a greater impact than anything we manage to tick off a list.

As this weekend comes to an end, take a moment to thank God for the blessings it has brought. Consider what has refreshed your spirit and what you can carry forward into the week ahead. Every day is a gift, but weekends offer a special opportunity to step back, reset, and realign our priorities.

Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Psalm 90:12

May we never simply let our weekends pass by. Instead, may we use them wisely, cherish them gratefully, and allow them to strengthen us for the journey ahead.

I want to share a prayer to conclude today’s thought:

Lord, thank You for the gift of this weekend. Help us to use our time wisely, to find true rest in You, and to focus on the things that matter most. As we begin a new week, fill us with renewed strength, purpose, and peace. Amen.
