All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’) ~ Isaiah 7:14 (NLT)

Can you imagine that first Christmas, over 2 thousand years ago, when it was announced that an unmarried woman was to become pregnant and give birth?Imagine the stigma, the comments, the looks that Mary must have had to put up with.

If God asked you to do something out of the ordinary today, would you be willing? Mary was, so why can’t we do something extraordinary for God too!

All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’) ~ Isaiah 7:14 (NLT)

Imagine it’s over two thousand years ago, you are Mary, you’re engaged to be married, when you are told by an angel that you are pregnant and going to give birth to a son.

I would imagine Mary would have been shocked and astounded by what the angel told her, but did she object and question God? No, she did not!

How often do we question God about things that have happened, or things that haven’t happened, many of which are not nearly as immense as being asked to give birth to the Son of God! If Mary, a young, unmarried woman can accept God’s will without questioning or doubting it was the right thing to do, why should we ever doubt anything God asks us to do!

So if God has been talking to you and wants you to do something which so far you’ve refused to do, why not take that step this Christmas, just as Mary did, and do God’s will.

How many times have you been travelling somewhere in the car, with children, and before you’re anywhere near your destination they start asking, “Are we nearly there yet? Are we nearly there yet?”

Imagine how Mary felt travelling to Bethlehem while very heavily pregnant. Do you think she kept asking Joseph every few minutes, “Are we nearly there yet?”

Never having been pregnant I can’t give you any words of wisdom regarding how Mary might have felt during the last few hours of her pregnancy, as she travelled to Bethlehem. However I can tell you that based on the experiences of family and friends, I’m sure Mary would have been hoping her baby would be born soon, and there would be no complications.

But Mary’s pregnancy was no ordinary pregnancy as she was going to give birth to the Son of God! What an incredible responsibility she must have felt!

So by this time on the first Christmas, I’m sure Mary would have been delighted and relieved when Joseph told her there wasn’t far to go

Here’s a video of the song Not Far from Bethlehem performed here by Carol Gaddis & Joyful Noise:

Well today my hubby reached the big  5 0 !

Before I go any further I must point out that I of course am much younger than my husband! 🙂

My life was in the balance last week when I passed on some photos of hubby from the past to work, so they could celebrate hubby’s birthday with him last Friday – we’re both off this week so they wanted to celebrate his birthday with him beforehand. My fears were unfounded as hubby took all the posters/pics in good humour so my life was safe for the time being…but for how much longer?!

Hubby has already picked out his special birthday present so all I had to do was get a few surprise things for him so he had some presents to open on his big day! So what did I get him? Well I got a few sensible things for him – I’m sorry but I had to – but I did however do something silly and bought him something silly…

Those of you who know my husband will probably know that he likes his food, and in addition to that, that he can be a bit messy/clumsy sometimes. For sometime now I’ve been kidding him on that I’d get him a pelican bib, like babies have to catch the food he drops…well I did, I found him an adult sized pelican bib!

So that was the something silly, but what did I do that was silly? Well again on the same theme as my other surprise for him. i.e. food/eating related, I bought 50 bars of chocolate or tubes of sweetie and wrapped them up individually for him. So whenever he wants a sweetie, he can open one of the little presents I got him and have a surprise seeing what kind of sweetie he’s got this time!

As my hubby is originally from Alloa, and a lifelong Alloa Football Club supporter, I also bought him a few bits and pieces of their things. Do you think he’ll like them?: Mousemat, pennant, keyring

To my husband, happy 50th birthday!

Three weeks today we will be celebrating Christmas Day. So today I thought I’d share the first of my Christmas related blog post with you for this year.

Firstly please watch and listen to the following video of Clay Aiken singing Mary, Did You Know.

Mary, Did You Know

[Originally written by Mark Lowry and Buddy Greene]

Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy has come to make you new?
This Child that you delivered will soon deliver you.

Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy will calm the storm with His hand?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy has walked where angels trod?
When you kiss your little Baby you kissed the face of God?

Mary did you know.. Ooo Ooo Ooo

The blind will see.
The deaf will hear.
The dead will live again.
The lame will leap.
The dumb will speak
The praises of The Lamb.

Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would one day rule the nations?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy is heaven’s perfect Lamb?
The sleeping Child you’re holding is the Great, I Am.

So your expecting a child, but how would you feel if you were told all about what your child would achieve in his life? Proud, amazed, disbelieving, sceptical…

Mary however believed what she was told about her going to give birth to the Son of God – what a strong faith she must have had!

Do you believe all God tell you and all you learn about God? Don’t be sceptical about all God can do, as He can do anything, and He can help you achieve anything regardless of what experience or training you may have had.
