Today I attended the AIIM 2010 Roadshow in Glasgow. This was the first time I’ve attended one of these events, however having found it a useful day, I hope it won’t be my last.
Now I’m sure many of you will be wondering what is AIIM? AIIM is “the global enterprise content management association. It is AIIM is the community that provides education, research, and best practices to help organisations find, control, and optimize their information.
So why was I there? Well I’ve been a member of AIIM for almost a year, have gained my AIIM ECM Specialist accreditation (See my blog Real Life Training for more details), and currently project manager for our EDRMS project which it part of our overall ECM project. Now I’ve probably baffled many of you with acronyms, but suffice to say it’s all about managing your information and making to accessible and searchable platform independent.
The following is taken from the AIIM Communities website:
Information is an asset that can be used to change reality, improve positioning, and reduce costs and risks. Knowledge is power, which means increased focus on the information worker in an electronic world. Web 2.0 has already started to influence how employees are connected to each other, and solutions like the iPhone, Facebook, and Twitter change our enterprise requirements for functionality and usability. Information workers want solutions like in Star Trek, and over the next few years we will see new worker models for business information and users.
At the roadshow today I was able to discuss our development plans for your EDRMS, as we will hopefully be rolling this our to other users over the coming months. That in itself provides some challenges as some of the areas we will be looking to roll this out to have some requirements which we have not yet catered for within our EDRMS/ECM solution. e.g. High volume scanning and classification, digital signatures. So there were several solution providers at the roadshow which were able to give me some useful information and may be able to help us move forward with our EDRMS/ECM project.
Thanks to AIIM for a good roadshow.
