Musical Emotions – Part 3

Last week in Music to Touch Our Hearts I listed a number of pieces of music which always pull at my heart-strings. The third piece of music I listed was the hymn Lord, Thou Art Questioning, which we used to sing in our singing company (junior choir).

Strangely enough just a few weeks ago in my blog post called Question Me, I spoke about this piece of music, and about how it was sung on the day I was commissioned a Senior Soldier at Rutherglen Salvation Army. Obviously today I don’t want to repeat what I said in that post, so I’ll just talk generally about this song. So firstly let me remind you of the words of this song:

Lord, thou art questioning: Lovest thou me?
Yea, Lord, thou knowest , my answer must be;
But since love’s value is proved by loves’ test,
Jesus, I’ll give thee the dearest and best.

All in my heart, Lord, thou canst read;
Master, thou knowest I love thee indeed.
Ask what thou wilt my devotion to test,
I will surrender the dearest and best.

How could thou smile on me if, in my heart,
I were unwilling from treasures to part?
Since my redemption cost thee such a price,
Utmost surrender alone will suffice.

Down at they feet all my fears I let go,
Back on thy strength all my weakness I throw;
Lord, in my life thou shalt have thine own way,
Speak but the word, and thy child will obey.

Sometimes it’s not just when God questions our love for Him that we waver. Sometimes, it’s when those around us question our faith that we question our love of God even more.

When you disagree with someone because it goes against your Christian beliefs, do you openly admit it’s because of your faith, or do you try everything else you can think of without admitting your faith?

If am completely honest with you, I have probably done both at sometime or another. i.e. I’ve admitted up front my faith and beliefs but in some situations I’ve also just kept quiet about my faith because I didn’t want to “stand out in the crowd”. How wrong is that?! God wants us “to stand out in a crowd”, to show others that being His servant is the best thing they could ever do in their lives.

God doesn’t just want us to admit to Him that we love Him, He also wants us to admit to others that we love Him, and we are living our lives for God. Are you doing that?
