Musical Emotions – Part 5

In Music to Touch Our Hearts I listed a number of pieces of music which always pull at my heart-strings. So today I want to talk to you about the fifth of the songs I listed, which was The Power of the Cross.

As I’ve told you before, music has always been a huge part of my life both with my family and also my Christian life. So that is probably why the music I’ve selected, reflects my faith, my beliefs, my emotional side about life and my faith (which I usually try my best to hide from everyone!)

So The Power of The Cross, why is one that pulls at my heartstrings? probably because od what I’ve just explained above…i.e. It explains to the listen just how important an event Christ‘s crucifixion at Calvary was (and still is) to me, and to every other Christian. Without Christ dying on the cross, we would have no Christianity, and that song explains to the listen the true emotion of Christ’s crucifixion and the pain He suffered that day, all for you and for me.

I’ve mentioned before that Easter is my favourite time of the year – I know this might seem odd to many of you as I think most people would probably say Christmas. However for me, Easter encapsulates everything that my faith is build on, and therefore, the power of the cross is unmatchable.

The Power of The Cross

Oh, to see the dawn
Of the darkest day:
Christ on the road to Calvary.
Tried by sinful men,
Torn and beaten, then
Nailed to a cross of wood.

CHORUS:
This, the pow’r of the cross:
Christ became sin for us;
Took the blame, bore the wrath—
We stand forgiven at the cross.

Oh, to see the pain
Written on Your face,
Bearing the awesome weight of sin.
Ev’ry bitter thought,
Ev’ry evil deed
Crowning Your bloodstained brow.

Now the daylight flees;
Now the ground beneath
Quakes as its Maker bows His head.
Curtain torn in two,
Dead are raised to life;
“Finished!” the vict’ry cry.

Oh, to see my name
Written in the wounds,
For through Your suffering I am free.
Death is crushed to death;
Life is mine to live,
Won through Your selfless love.

FINAL CHORUS:
This, the pow’r of the cross:
Son of God—slain for us.
What a love! What a cost!
We stand forgiven at the cross.
