Yesterday I spoke about being asked to forgive others, which can be difficult. But forgiveness isn’t always about us forgiving those who have hurt or upset us, it can sometimes be about forgiving ourselves.
We all do things at times which we’re not proud of, and which we could undo the damage they have caused to a relationship we have with someone. In those circumstances, particularly when we’ve hurt someone close to us, it can be incredibly hard to forgive ourselves.
How can we ever expect others to forgive us when we’ve hurt them, if we can’t even forgive ourselves? Fortunately the bible tells us that
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9
When we admit to God when we’ve done wrong, when we’ve hurt someone, He forgives us. We’re forgiven by God, so we must forgive ourselves.
