Love like Him

Earlier today on Bellshill Salvation Army Band’s Facebook page I shared some devotions. I’d like to share those devotions with you tonight.

How many people have you spoken to in the last week, either in person or via social media?

Of those you’ve spoken to, do you know many of them are struggling with something in their life just now? We probably don’t know how many of them are struggling with something in their life right now, but we’re unlikely to know about most of them.

Many of those we see or speak to are likely to be finding some part of their life difficult at present. Those that fall into this category may surprise you, as many may not have shared their problems or concerns with anyone, and will have shown no outward signs of their struggles.

We are all called to reach out to the hurting, and love them just as Jesus loves us. Only God knows the struggles each of us face in our daily lives, so be like Jesus, by treating everyone with understanding and compassion – That act of reaching out in kindness to someone could be the thing that helps that person through another day.

He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us.

2 Corinthians 1:4 (The Message)

I came across a song entitled ‘Love Them Like Jesus’ by Casting Crowns’ few years ago. It’s a poignant song reaffirming my earlier statement that we are called to reach out to the hurting, and love them just as Jesus loves us.
