What kind of week have you had? How does this coming week look?
My last week was a difficult one on several levels – I found it quite difficult, stressful and challenging at times. There were moments when I felt stretched thin, moments when I felt overwhelmed, and moments when I wondered how I was going to get through the rest of the week with the energy I had left.
But here’s the thing I’m learning:
- a hard week doesn’t mean a hopeless week.
- a difficult season doesn’t mean God has stepped back or desserted us.
Sometimes the very weeks that drain us are the ones that quietly reveal how much we’re being carried. Not in a dramatic way, but in the small mercies that keep us going:
- the unexpected encouragement
- a hug of support a reassurance from a friend
- the strength we didn’t think we had
- the peace that arrives in the middle of the chaos rather than after it.
As I look toward the week ahead, I’m choosing not to pretend everything will be easy. Instead, I’m choosing something better – to trust that whatever I walk into, God has already walked into it first.
Life can be really tough at times, but when we remind ourselves of the following, we can be assured God is always with us:
- He goes before us into the conversations we’re dreading.
- He goes before us into the tasks that feel too big.
- He goes before us into the moments we don’t yet know are coming.
And because He goes before us, we can step into a new week not with fear, but with quiet confidence.
So if last week drained you, or if next week looks intimidating, take a breath. You don’t need to have it all figured out tonight, and you don’t need to face it alone.
You just need to take the next step — and trust that God is already ahead of you, making a way.
The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.
Deuteronomy 31:8 (NIV)
There’s something steadying about this verse. It doesn’t promise an easy week. It promises a faithful God, one who goes ahead, walks beside, and never abandons.
When you don’t know what’s coming next, this is the truth you can lean on.
