The start of a journey

Today we celebrate Palm Sunday. It’s also called Passion Sunday sometimes, as it marks the beginning of Holy Week and Jesus’ final agonizing journey to His crucifixion. It’s always the sixth Sunday in Lent and the Sunday before Easter. Palm Sunday is celebrated in all major Christian churches.

Even today, many Palm Sunday traditions remain much the same as those celebrated many centuries ago. Some begin with the blessing of the palms, before people take the palms and place them in their homes. In many churches, crosses are made from palm leaves. This is a reminder that Palm Sunday is the start of the life-changing events of Holy Week.

Jesus Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, one week before his death and subsequent resurrection. The bible tells us that when Christ entered Jerusalem huge crowds welcomed him, waving palm branches and covering his path with the palm branches.

Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!

Matthew 21:8

So come with me on a journey this week as we remember Jesus last week on earth. We will prepare our heart for the most important week in history – The week in which we see the agony of Christ as he is crucified, but then we celebrate His glorious resurrection, all so we would be saved from sin.
