Building each other up

Each of us should please our neighbours for their good, to build them up.

Romans 15:2 (NIV)

Sunday nights have a way of always making me start to think about the week ahead. It’s in these quieter moments that God often nudges our hearts, reminding us of the kind of people He’s calling us to be, not just on Sundays, but in the everyday spaces of life.

Romans 15:2 gives us a simple but challenging invitation: to live in a way that strengthens others, encourages others, and lifts others up.

Not to impress them. Not to win their approval. But for their good, for their growth, their confidence, their faith, and their hope.

In a world that often pushes us toward self‑focus, Paul gently redirects our gaze outward. He reminds us that the Christian life is not meant to be lived with our elbows tucked in, protecting our own comfort. It’s meant to be lived with open hands and open hearts, looking for ways to bless the people God has placed around us.

  • Maybe that looks like a kind word spoken at just the right moment.
  • Maybe it’s choosing patience when frustration would be easier.
  • Maybe it’s offering help without being asked.
  • Maybe it’s simply showing up, faithfully, quietly, consistently, in someone’s life.

Building others up doesn’t require grand gestures. It requires a willing spirit.

As this Sunday draws to a close, take a moment to think about the people you’ll meet this week, at work, at home, in church, in passing. What would it look like to be a builder in their lives? What small act of grace could strengthen someone who’s feeling weary or unseen?

God has placed you where you are for a purpose. And one of the most beautiful ways we reflect Christ is by choosing to lift others higher than they stand today.

May we all have a week filled with opportunities to encourage, to bless, and to build, brick by brick, heart by heart, in the strength and love of Jesus.
